This picture shows Eden Gardens Block Club members coming together with the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue to make a difference in food and justice. Eden Garden's garden is located 6 blocks north of Detroit City Airport on Detroit's eastside.
The block club is active in cleaning and maintaining vacant lots and vacant properties in the 18-block area. We are also actively working in our community garden. Our goal is to have every vacant house boarded up, vacant lots cleared and maintained, and to have a community garden where healthy foods are available for neighborhood residents. We are striving to build a community that cares about the youth and the elderly alike. Eden Gardens is a place for the youth to express themselves while also building a relationship with the elders through gardening and learning new life skills.
Eden Gardens looks forward to building a community house for the people of the neighborhood, a place where children can learn life skills such as eating healthy, cooking, sewing, farming, and canning. The community house will be a place for youth to learn leadership skills and make decisions on what they would like in their neighborhood ultimately guiding them to make better decisions in their lives and in our world.
Work days in the garden are Wednesdays and Sunday. Hours are 5 to 7 pm April, May, September and October. June, July, and August 6 to 8
